Kate Harper: Recipient of MBA’s Women in the Law 2016 Margaret Richardson Award

Timoney Knox, LLP is pleased to announce that Partner Catherine M. “Kate” Harper has been chosen to receive the Montgomery Bar Association Women in the Law 2016 Margaret Richardson Award.

“I speak for all of Kate’s partners and everyone here at Timoney Knox when I say that there is no more deserving or worthy candidate for this award than Kate,” said George Riter, Managing Partner. “Her hard work, dedication and perseverance are the traits which have permitted her to excel in her career as a lawyer and state representative on behalf of her constituents.”

The award “is given in honor of Margaret Richardson to a trailblazer who has promoted the role of women in the legal profession, advanced women’s legal rights or access to legal assistance,” according to the Montgomery County Bar Association Women inHARPER the Law Committee. “We commend (Ms. Harper) on (her) role as a trailblazer for women in not only Montgomery County, but in the State of Pennsylvania.” The Margaret Richardson Award is named for the first woman member of the Montgomery County Bar Association.

An attorney for more than 35 years, Harper, of Lower Gwynedd Township, has been a partner at Timoney Knox since 1997. She is also a member of the Pennsylvania General Assembly in the House of Representatives, serving Eastern Montgomery County. Harper previously served for 13 years as a member and Chair of the Lower Gwynedd Township Board of Supervisors. Harper is one of the few Montgomery County attorneys to have argued a case before the U.S. Supreme Court.

A Villanova University School of Law graduate, her practice focuses primarily on municipal land use matters as well as real estate and civil litigation. She represents various municipal governing bodies and boards throughout Bucks and Montgomery counties.

Her extensive expertise in environmental issues has led Harper to serve on the Environmental Hearing Board Rules Committee as well as Vice-Chair of the Montgomery County Planning Commission and the Schuylkill Greenway Study Commission. She chaired the Montgomery County Open Space Planning Board and helped write the county’s Open Space Plan.

Harper will be formally recognized for her Women In The Law achievement during a ceremony on Nov. 1 at the Montgomery County Bar Association building in Norristown.
