Password Required: What If Something Happens To Me In A Paperless World?
As more and more credit cards, utility companies, and general businesses are urging consumers to convert to online billing from traditional paper accounts, many are wondering: “What if something happens to me? How will my family know what my bills are if they aren’t coming in the mail?”
To save children and loved ones from unnecessary headaches in the form of late fees and back and forth conversations with bill collectors, you should be mindful of what accounts you have, keeping an up-to-date list of account numbers, user names, and passwords. This list should be kept with your other estate documents or given to a trusted loved one.
Don’t miss out on the convenience of online bill paying for fear of problems down the road for your family, but be sure to leave them the necessary information to handle your finances. (Amanda M. Kita, Esquire – July 20, 2015)
